In first century A.D. the great Greek physician and medical botanist Dios Corriedis referred to mastic in his book “De Materia Medica.” The word “mastic” or “mastiche” (pronounced mas-tee-ka) is probably derived from the Greek “mastichon,” which means “to chew”. Mastix tree are very rare. Most of them grow on the Greek island Chios.
